I'm weight sensitive and the Tamron is slightly heavier (815g) compared to the Canon (760g). The optical quality of the Tamron is looking very good, I would say coma/astigmatism is comparable to my Canon 35/1.4 II. An additional tracker would be too heavy. I plan to use several cameras on a rail with one camera on a pano-head, so that I can shoot one pano every hour (=background) and copy the corresponding meteors into it. I just managed to book a scenic hiking shelter (strict Covid-19 regulations) which requires a 2+ hrs snowshoe hike. My partially clear 'pre-peak' night is probably 2 nights before maximum, around -4 C, wind up to 10 m/s and chances for aurora. I will probably have to settle for a pre-peak night the way things are shaping up - once again missing the best rates! I can only hope the peak arrives early, which is always a possibility. It looks like that will be a problem here too. The trouble is that the sky/stars move, so it would be better to track, otherwise you'll miss meteors that could go into a composite image, but it's still better than just a single camera/lens.īut my biggest problem will also be the lack of a clear sky. I'll be doing similar with groups of 2 identical lens/cameras with overlapping fields. I'm rather thinking of several lenses covering the same area: two to three overlapping 35/1.4mm lenses to capture the shorter meteors and one fast 14mm lens to capture the bright & long ones. but as you say (I just spotted that post too) we should hopefully see some RF Sigma Arts soon! Due to the difficult economic situation of the camera market I would expect that Sigma will try to offer all mirrorless lenses also for Z and RF (unless there are technical limitations).Ī shame they can not be adapted. But there is new rumor about Sigma offering Z and RF mount next year ( ). Lenses for the Sony E-mount cannot be fitted on the RF mount (unless you invent a 2mm 'thick' adapter ).
